SSATP Stakeholders and Constituent Assembly deliberated on the Second Development Plan

The current Long Term Development Plan (LTDP 2004-2007) is near completion and the SSATP partners have developed a second phase development plan (DP-2) to be implemented over 2008-2011.

In this process, SSATP organized a stakeholders' consultation workshop on April 23-24 in Nairobi. The main objective of this workshop was to agree on the framework of the new plan. The participants analyzed the key challenges and opportunities for Africa's transport development and adopted a strategic framework for the DP-2. 

The strategic document was presented to the Constituent Assembly during the EC-EU Member States Transport Meeting held in Vienna on June 28-29.

Burkina Faso Completes PRTSR

burkina prtsrThe poverty reduction and transport strategy review (PRTSR) was one of the key transport policy development activities carried out in Burkina Faso. The principal objective of the review was to analyze and improve the links between the national strategies for poverty reduction (PRS) and transport, and to establish mechanisms for cross-sector dialogue. The process was participatory and fully owned by local stakeholders. The SSATP provided modest financial support and technical guidance.

Events
SSATP Annual Meeting in Ouagadougou
The 2007 SSATP Annual Meeting is planned to be held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on November 5-7, 2007. Following the generous offer of the Government of Burkina Faso to host the meeting, the SSATP Program Manager, Zaza Ramandimbiarison , visited the Ministry of Transport and other key institutions in Ouagadougou. 

SSATP will update partners on all developments in due course.

Road Sector Reforms in Burkina and Uganda

The Council of Ministers of Burkina Faso adopted a decree for the establishment of a second generation road Fund on June 27. SSATP is ready to provide further support to firm up the implementation plan leading to an operational road fund.
In Uganda, a road fund bill is now ready for presentation to the Parliament and is expected to be passed later this year.

Chirundu Border Post Monitoring
In its effort to facilitate trade in SSA, the SSATP has been carried out corridor monitoring activities. The overall objective of this initiative is to collect data that can be used to improve the efficiency of transit transport services. The initiative is now in its final stage and the following briefing note provides a summary of the main findings and data collected at the Chirundu border post, between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

RMF Course in Paris (France)

The SSATP participated to the Road Management & Financing Course jointly organized with the École nationale des Ponts et chaussées in Paris. Representatives of Francophone SSA countries with road agencies in place attended the course. The course program focused on issues related to procurement and road performance-based management. 

Summer University in Lyon (France)

The SSATP contributed to the yearly course program organized by SITRASS at the summer university of Lyon. The course is targeted to transport managers and practitioners in SSA countries. 20 candidates are every year selected to attend the course spread over a month.
